Florida requires residential Aerobic Treatment Units to receive a minimum of two maintenance visits per year. During each scheduled visit, we inspect applicable treatment and system components, perform routine maintenance, and document the condition and operation of the system.
Commercial ATU Maintenance
Florida requires commercial Aerobic Treatment Units to receive a minimum of four maintenance visits per year. These more frequent visits help ensure the system’s treatment and mechanical components are routinely inspected and maintained throughout the year.
ATU Drip Systems Need Additional Attention
ATU systems that use subsurface drip dispersal contain additional components that require regular attention, including filters, pumps, valves, pressure controls, and drip tubing. Because these components affect how treated wastewater is distributed throughout the drip field, problems can develop between the minimum required maintenance visits.
Why We Service Drip Systems More Frequently
After servicing a large number of ATU drip systems, we have found that the minimum two maintenance visits per year may not provide enough opportunity to catch developing problems. Filters can become dirty, pressure can change, and other components may require attention between scheduled visits.
For the ATU drip systems we maintain, Lakeland Septic Company provides two additional preventive maintenance visits each year, for a total of four scheduled visits annually. What If We Find a Problem During Maintenance?
Routine ATU maintenance gives us an opportunity to identify problems before they become larger system failures. If we find a component that is not operating properly, we will document the issue and let you know what we recommend.
Depending on the system, repairs may include pumps, floats, alarms, blowers, filters, control components, or other parts of the ATU. Repairs and replacement parts are not included as part of routine maintenance unless specifically stated in your maintenance agreement.

ATU maintenance visits include checking system operation and sludge levels, but septic tank pumping is a separate service. If our technician determines that pumping is recommended, we’ll let you know so it can be scheduled.
