What is a septic filter?

A septic filter prevents any particles of waste that try to pass through the tank and out to your drain field.

It is important to note that not all systems have a filter. A filter may not have been a required for your system. Therefore your tank will not have one. However you can always add one to your tank.

Where is the septic filter located

The Filter is located inside of the outlet pipe of your septic tank. So in order to remove it you must access the outlet lid of your tank.

What is the purpose of a septic filter

The purpose of a septic filter is to catch any solid particles that may try to exit the tank and go into your drain field. It works similarly to a filter on your home A/C. Therefore having a filter in your septic tank can help extend the life of your drain field. So a filter is pretty much exactly what it sounds like, it filters out small parts of solids to prevent them from causing issues in your drain field.

We recommend cleaning your filter once a year to prevent any unexpected backups in your home. Unless it is damaged there is no need to replace it. You can clean the filter yourself or call us to come clean it for you.

How often should you pump your septic tank

The state of Florida recommends having your septic tank pumped every 3-5 years. We recommend the more people living in the home the more frequent you should pump your tank. Above all you should understand that not maintaining your tank or filter could result in a very messy and costly problem.
